David Stein Joins Covington’s Financial Institutions Group

WASHINGTON, DC, May 26, 2015 — Leading consumer financial services lawyer David Stein has joined Covington’s financial institutions group in the firm’s Washington office. Mr. Stein will advise financial services industry clients on regulatory and compliance matters, focusing on consumer protection and consumer financial services issues.

Mr. Stein brings extensive experience from private practice and government service. As managing counsel and senior regulatory attorney both at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and at the Federal Reserve Board's Division of Consumer and Community Affairs, Mr. Stein managed regulatory projects and played a significant role in developing regulations and regulatory policy relating to credit reporting, retail payments systems, deposit accounts, fair lending, mortgage origination and servicing, and privacy.

Other recent additions to Covington’s financial institutions group include Andrew Smith, who joined the group as a partner in November 2014, and Rusty Conner and Michael Reed, who also joined as partners earlier last year.

Mr. Stein received a bachelor’s degree from The John Hopkins University and his law degree with highest honors from George Washington University School of Law, where he was elected to the Order of the Coif. Mr. Stein served as a law clerk to the Honorable Sherman G. Finesilver of the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado.
