Covington’s Phillip Warren Named Antitrust Lawyer of the Year

SAN FRANCISCO, October 29, 2014 — The California State Bar’s Antitrust & Unfair Competition Section recognized Covington & Burling partner Phillip Warren as the 2014 “Antitrust Lawyer of the Year.” Mr. Warren was honored at the 24th annual Golden State Antitrust and Unfair Competition Law Institute & Antitrust Lawyer of the Year event on October 16 in San Francisco.

“Phil provided extraordinarily effective leadership of the San Francisco office of the Antitrust Division,” said Thomas Barnett, co-chair of Covington’s antitrust and competition practice and former assistant attorney general of the U.S. Department of Justice’s Antitrust Division. “His selfless dedication to improving cartel enforcement as well as antitrust enforcement generally is a model for others to follow. I can think of no more deserving person to honor as the Antitrust Lawyer of the Year.”

Before joining Covington, Mr. Warren served as chief of the San Francisco office of the U.S. Department of Justice’s Antitrust Division from 2002 to 2014. From 1997 to 2002, Mr. Warren served as a trial attorney and then as the assistant chief in the office. Mr. Warren led or supervised more than 50 international cartel investigations and oversaw some of the largest and most successful prosecutions in the Antitrust Division’s history. Under his leadership, the San Francisco office secured more than $2.5 billion in fines.

Mr. Warren joined Covington as a partner in May 2014. He focuses on international cartel matters.
