SAN FRANCISCO, May 5, 2014 — Covington & Burling is pleased to announce that Martin H. (Marty) Myers has joined the firm’s insurance recovery practice representing corporate policyholders in complex coverage disputes with their insurers. Mr. Myers joins the firm as a partner, resident in its San Francisco office.
A nationally recognized insurance recovery practitioner, Mr. Myers has represented clients in a wide array of industry sectors ranging from agriculture to technology. For more than twenty years, he has litigated and resolved complex coverage disputes over a variety of losses and claims, including intellectual property, product recall, management and professional liability, property and business interruption, and mass tort and environmental claims. Mr. Myers also advises on mergers and acquisition insurance products, including tax loss, representation and warranty, and environmental policies.
“Marty will be a tremendous boost for Covington and our San Francisco office in a practice area that has long been one of the firm’s crown jewels. Marty is a terrific coverage litigator and colleague, and he’ll play a key role in our West Coast coverage practice,” said Timothy Hester, chair of Covington’s management committee.
Covington has one of the world’s preeminent practices representing corporate policyholders in their efforts to recover insurance proceeds through negotiation, litigation, and domestic and international arbitration. With over 30 years of experience and more than 100 lawyers practicing in London, New York, San Francisco, and Washington, the firm has long been regarded as a leader in the field. Covington’s insurance recovery practice is the only such practice ranked in the top tier by Chambers USA and Legal 500 on a national basis. Chambers USA, which has also given Covington the only top-tier ranking in California and Washington, refers to Covington as “firmly settled at the pinnacle of the nationwide insurance policyholder bar” and as enjoying “a standout reputation from coast to coast for its leadership in a wide range of coverage matters.”
“Covington has always had an incredibly strong policyholder practice, and I am excited to have the opportunity to join the team,” Mr. Myers said. “I look forward to working with my new colleagues in Washington, New York, and London, as well as Don Brown, David Goodwin, and Larry Hobel, three giants of this practice area based here in California.”
Mr. Myers is a graduate of Miami University and the University of Michigan Law School. He is ranked for his work in the insurance recovery field by Chambers USA, Legal 500, and Best Lawyers in America.
