WASHINGTON, DC, November 18, 2013 — Covington & Burling’s Roger Zakheim moderated a Q&A session with General Martin Dempsey, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, at the Reagan National Defense Forum: Building Peace Through Strength Through 2025. The day-long conference took place on Saturday, Nov. 16 at the Ronald Reagan National Library in Simi Valley, California. The conference brought together leaders and key stakeholders in the defense community, including members of Congress, civilian officials and military leaders from the Defense Department and industry to address the health of our national defense, and to stimulate a discussion that promotes policies that strengthen the United States military into the future. “This was a chance to bring leading politicians, military leaders and defense industry experts together to discuss how we can overcome the challenges facing our national defense and secure tomorrow’s national security needs,” Mr. Zakheim said Prominent attendees included: the Honorable Chuck Hagel, United States Secretary of Defense; Leon Panetta, former United States Secretary of Defense; General James Amos, Commandant of the U.S. Marine Corps; the Honorable John McHugh, Secretary of the Army; Admiral Jonathan Greenert, Chief of Naval Operations and Congressman Howard "Buck" McKeon.
