BRUSSELS, 5 February, 2013 — The International Association of Privacy Professionals, the world’s largest association of privacy professionals, has appointed Covington & Burling’s Henriette (“Jetty”) Tielemans to its executive committee. “I am thrilled to welcome Jetty to our executive committee,” said J. Trevor Hughes, president and CEO of IAPP. “Her expertise and insights will be instrumental as we work toward promoting and strengthening the privacy profession globally.” At Covington, Ms. Tielemans is a partner in the Brussels office and co-chair of the firm’s global privacy and data security practice. She specializes in data privacy and security law, and European regulatory matters. She was selected by the European Commission to join the five-member team of the commission's expert group on privacy (GEXPD group). During the past 15 years, she has advised multinational companies on all aspects of EU and national privacy laws and international data transfers, and on the impact of various technological developments, including cloud computing, geo location and product tracking, bring your own devices and cookies. Ms. Tielemans is a regular speaker at privacy conferences organized by the IAPP, the American Bar Association and Federal Trade Commission and has written extensively on privacy-related issues.
