Covington Named a ‘Best Law Firm for Women’ by NAFE

September 13, 2011

WASHINGTON, DC, September 13, 2011 — Covington & Burling LLP has been named as one of the nation’s best law firms for women lawyers by the National Association of Female Executives and Flex-Time Lawyers. The firm has won the award every year that the award has been given.

The 50 winning firms were selected to the “Best Law Firms for Women” based on their workforce profile, family-friendly benefits and policies, flexibility, leadership, compensation, advancement and retention of women.

“We are pleased that Covington has once again been selected for this recognition,” said Timothy Hester, chair of the firm's management committee. “Covington continues its deep commitment to providing all of our lawyers with the resources and support necessary to succeed, recognizing the significance of work/life programs and maintaining a women-friendly workplace.”

Deborah Epstein Henry, founder and president of Flex-Time Lawyers commented: “The 2011 Best Law Firms for Women are encouraging the retention and promotion of women, in addition to creating conducive work environments for all lawyers to thrive. By offering leadership and business development opportunities for women, along with generous flexibility, parental leave and childcare programs, these firms are better poised to retain and promote the brightest legal minds, with the goal of reaching parity for women in the profession.”

The 50 Best Law Firms for Women and their work/life and women-friendly policies are highlighted in the fall issue of NAFE Magazine and are profiled at nafe.com, workingmother.com and flextimelawyers.com/best.asp. NAFE is a division of Working Mother Media, a division of Bonnier Corporation. Winning firms will be honored at a luncheon at the Westin Hotel in New York on September 21.

In addition, Covington is one of the few law firms to be named to Working Mother’s list of 100 Best Companies for five consecutive years.

“Covington’s commitment to the success of our women lawyers is apparent through the firm’s programs, and we are honored to be named to NAFE and Flex-Time Lawyers’ Best Law Firms for Women list,” said Marney Cheek, partner and co-chair of the firm’s Women’s Forum. “The Women’s Forum, for example, involves women at all levels of seniority and offers lawyers the opportunity to participate in mentoring groups and other professional development initiatives.”
