Covington’s Vine Receives Burton Award for Legal Achievement

April 28, 2011

WASHINGTON, DC, April 28, 2011 — John Vine, a longtime Covington & Burling partner and senior counsel, has been named a recipient of the 2011 Burton Awards for Legal Achievement. Mr. Vine, one of the nation’s leading employee benefits lawyers, is being recognized as a winner in the legal writing for law firms category for his article, “ERISA Rights and Responsibilities,” originally published in Tax Management Compensation Planning Journal in September 2010 and available here.

The Burton Awards are presented annually to lawyers who “demonstrate effective legal writing” that uses “plain, clear and concise language” rather than “stilted legalese.” This year, Burton judges honored 30 authors from the nation’s 1,000 largest law firms.

Supreme Court Justices Sonia Sotomayor and Stephen Breyer will speak at the awards ceremony to be held on June 13, 2011 at the Library of Congress.
