WASHINGTON, DC, January 7, 2011 — Law360 has named Covington & Burling LLP’s employment practice as one of five “Employment Groups of the Year.”
“The key to Covington's success has been its laser focus on a select number of vital cases with major implications for the future of ERISA, while other firms may focus on handling a greater volume of routine ERISA cases,” wrote Law360 in its January 4, 2011 profile.
“We're pleased to have played a major role in a number of important cases,” said Jeffrey Huvelle, head of Covington’s ERISA litigation group. “I think our clients recognize that our strong ERISA litigation practice enjoys the added benefit of deep employee benefit and executive compensation advisory practices, as well as employment law practices, in the US, UK and EU."
The profile touts Covington’s representation of Xerox Corporation before the U.S. Supreme Court, the group's representation of Verizon in a billion-dollar ERISA class action, and its success in persuading the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit to vacate an order certifying a class in an ERISA stock drop case against Schering-Plough.
Law360 solicited submissions from over 300 law firms for its practice group of the year series and received more than 400 responses. Winners were selected based on the number of significant wins the group had in litigation or the size, number and complexity of deals the group worked on in 2010.
