Covington Boosts International Employment Capabilities with London Team Hire

LONDON, 6 October, 2010 — Covington & Burling LLP is pleased to announce the appointment of Christopher Walter as a partner in the European employment practice. He will be joined by special counsel Chris Bracebridge and associate Helena Laughrin. They will significantly enhance Covington's capabilities to meet the needs of the firm's growing European corporate practice.

Mr. Walter advises employer clients on HR practice and strategy in the United Kingdom, Europe and elsewhere. His practice includes the employment and employee benefits aspects of mergers and acquisitions, outsourcing and down-sizing, the drafting of bonus and incentive plans, share schemes, service/consultancy agreements, and agency worker contracts. Mr. Walter is also a seasoned litigator and has considerable experience as a Tribunal advocate. His practice encompasses the employment aspects of European data privacy compliance. He is recommended by Legal 500 and has been listed by Who's Who Legal since 2007 as one of the world's top employment lawyers. Mr. Walter chairs the International Committee of the Employment Lawyers Association and is a member of ELA's Management Committee. He is also a member of the European Employment Lawyers Association, XBHR and the Share Plan Lawyers Group.

Mr. Bracebridge has considerable contentious, commercial and advisory employment experience in the United Kingdom and Europe, including advising on HR aspects of company and business acquisitions and disposals, and outsourcing transactions. He has defended financial institutions and other major employers in numerous discrimination, dismissal, equal pay and whistle-blowing cases as well as advising corporate clients on the full range of day-to-day employment, data privacy and pensions matters. He was shortlisted for Assistant Solicitor of the Year 2009 by The Lawyer magazine and is recommended by Legal 500 UK as a leading employment lawyer. Mr. Bracebridge has twice been seconded to global financial institutions - a major US investment bank and a leading UK bank.

Ms. Laughrin advises UK employers on a wide range of contentious and non-contentious employment matters. Examples of Ms. Laughrin’s recent work include advising international companies on the implementation of Troubled Asset Relief Regulations in Europe and defending a New York hedge fund in a significant sex discrimination claim.
