WASHINGTON, DC, September 22, 2009 — For the fourth consecutive year, Covington & Burling LLP has been named to Working Mother magazine’s list of the “100 Best Companies.” Covington is one of only four law firms on the list, which is comprised mainly of major public companies.
“We are pleased to be recognized again as one of Working Mother’s 100 Best Companies,” said Tim Hester, chair of the Covington’s management committee. “Innovative work/life programs are critical to the success of our lawyers and staff. While we are gratified with the success we have achieved in this area, we are constantly evaluating our efforts and looking for even more ways to improve.”
Companies were selected based on an extensive set of data concerning workforce, compensation, child care, flexibility programs, leave policies, and more. The selection process also surveyed the usage, availability, and tracking of programs, as well as the accountability of managers who oversee them. Seven key areas were evaluated: workforce profile, benefits, women’s issues and advancement, child care, flexible work, parental leave, and company culture.
“The Working Mother 100 Best Companies stand head and shoulders above the rest,” said Carol Evans, CEO, Working Mother Media. “The 100 Best provide leadership where and when we need it most, furnishing a framework of support for working families during good times and bad. If all companies adopted these best practices, more families could weather the economic storm.”
Profiles of the 100 Best Companies, including Covington, are featured in the October issue of Working Mother and at workingmother.com.
