WASHINGTON, DC, June 1, 2009 — The chair of Covington & Burling LLP’s management committee, Timothy Hester, has been named a “Visionary” by Legal Times as part of a special report that recognizes Washington lawyers in the categories “Champions,” “Visionaries,” and “Pioneers.” Also recognized as a “Pioneer” was retired Covington partner Dick Copaken, who died in 2008.
The special report appears in the June 1 issue of The National Law Journal and honors those lawyers whose work has helped the Washington bar during the past year. “Visionaries” are those whose business or legal acumen has been key to expanding their firms, and “Pioneers” are those who passed away during the past year, but whose work has enriched the Washington bar.
Mr. Hester is recognized for the success of his leadership initiatives during his first year as chair, while the firm’s late partner Mr. Copaken is remembered for his successful and historic efforts to stop the Navy from using the Puerto Rican islands of Culebra and Vieques for weapons training.
