Covington Advises Sony NetServices on Partnership with Vodafone to Offer "Radio DJ" Service

January 20, 2006

LONDON, January 20, 2006 -  Leading international law firm Covington & Burling advised Sony NetServices on its partnership to offer a 3G mobile music service to Vodafone customers in more than 20 countries.

The cutting edge subscription service, called Vodafone Radio DJ, allows customers to listen to interactive, personalized radio channels streamed to both third-generation mobile handsets and personal computers.  Customers can use Sony NetServices' personalization system to "train" pre-programmed radio channels to reflect their own personal tastes through simple interactive features.  Hundreds of thousands of songs from major record labels will be available for listening as streams and for purchase as downloads.

The Vodafone Radio DJ service will be launched in the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Portugal and Spain in the coming months.  It is expected to then be rolled out to more than 20 countries worldwide over the following 12 months.

The Covington team included Bob Stankey and Erica Price in London, Jetty Tielemans in Brussels, and Doug Phillips in Washington.  Covington's strong corporate practice includes over 140 corporate lawyers practicing in London, Brussels, New York, Washington, and San Francisco.
