John Sauer's approach as he finished his first full term as the Trump administration's top Supreme Court lawyer with a handful of significant defeats. The article noted that Sauer has maintained little distance between himself and President Donald Trump, echoing his former private client's rhetoric in both briefs and his courtroom oratory.

Harrington pointed to Sauer's departure from the norms of the office. "There's a broader theme of Sauer not feeling beholden to some of the traditions of the office," Sarah said.
