Law360 covered Michael Granston’s arrival at Covington where he will be serving as Chair of Covington’s False Claims Act Investigations and Litigation practice group.
"After nearly 30 years at the Department of Justice, I was interested in taking my career in a new direction and in particular, refocusing my practice on representing individual clients and handling individual cases," Michael said. "So I decided moving on from the Department of Justice and looking at a place in private practice makes sense to me at this stage in my career. The change in administration made sort of a natural inflection point for me to make that switch."
"Covington is a leader in providing legal advice across many industries where participants are at risk of False Claims Act liabilities, including the life sciences, government procurement and trade arenas," Michael said. "Second, they have a very deep bench of False Claims Act attorneys who have a successful track record of handling the most challenging matters. For those two reasons, Covington stood out to me as a place where I could immediately make a positive impact on helping clients navigate an increasingly complex False Claims Act landscape which many are now facing."
My experience uniquely situates me to offer clients broad based assistance with any False Claims Act issues that arise, including compliance advice, investigative support, and litigation defense," Michael continued. "Having handled the full range of potential False Claims Act issues over many years and for many different administrations, I believe I am well situated to help clients understand how the government will approach a particular issue with respect to the clients, what the government may be thinking both substantively and strategically, and to give them the sense of the process by which investigations and litigation may proceed. All of which I hope clients will find very valuable."
