Law360 covered Nils Wahl’s arrival at Covington. Lisa Peets and Johan Ysewyn also shared their insight regarding how Nils’ addition will enhance the firm’s European Union competition and litigation practice in Brussels.
Lisa told Law360 that "longstanding legislation such as the [General Data Protection Regulation], alongside new European rules, including the Digital Markets Act, Digital Services Act, Foreign Subsidies Regulation, and new ESG laws, have led to an explosion in EU litigation. Nils' extraordinary breadth of experience positions him well to help our clients strategize on the many important matters involving the European courts.”
Describing Nils as “a giant of EU law” whom multiple clients are eager to meet, Johan added that “what we need to realize is that, more and more, the potential of a court appeal comes in earlier and earlier. It affects how you advocate and argue a case before the regulator because at some point later on you may be appearing before the court. So it's something that we've been looking at for quite a while.” Johan also noted that “obviously next week is the [American Bar Association] spring meeting and we've had a number of clients who have been given an advanced notice of Nils' arrival and want to meet him in [Washington,] D.C., and get his insights.”
