Uncertainty Remains over German Supply Chain Law Requirements

Emanuel Ghebregergis’ commentary was included in a Global Investigations Review article about Germany’s new supply chain due diligence law. Emanuel provides his insight on the level of detail companies are expected to include in their annual supply chain reports.

Emanuel tells GIR that “it’s not entirely clear how much detail you have to provide in the questionnaire. It has to be transparent and truthful, but there’s no explicit obligation to go into specific details about each of the incidents you might have encountered over a reporting period.” He added that the “intention behind the law is to create transparency and to create these additional checks by third parties, which isn't a bad thing, but it becomes complicated from a company standpoint on how to manage the enforcement risk.”
