A partial U.S.-Taiwan trade deal is a first step, but China still hates it

The agreement underscores Washington’s commitment to the self-governing island and represents the first tangible progress under the U.S.-Taiwan Initiative on 21st Century Trade.

“Its economic impact is very limited but, combined with other actions including highly visible meetings between U.S. and Taiwanese officials, its diplomatic impact could prove meaningful,” John said.
