Covington Boosts Insurance Group With Orrick DEI Co-Chair

Law360 covered Darren Teshima’s Covington arrival as a partner in the firm's Insurance Practice Group, located in the San Francisco office. According to Darren, “Covington has the premier and the gold standard coverage practice and they have for years, and I've always admired their lawyers." He continued, "I've had the opportunity to work with some of them when we were at Heller Ehrman together and so Covington is just a perfect opportunity for me to expand my coverage practice."
As a fourth-generation Japanese American "whose grandparents were incarcerated during the internment in World War II,” Darren, who was a co-chair of Orrick's diversity equity and inclusion program, expressed that fair and diverse representation was important to him.
"I've always had a personal connection to civil rights issues, in particular those affecting people from historically underrepresented groups including Asian Americans and other racial minorities," he said.
"It's something I'm passionate about. I feel really fortunate to serve as the board chair of the Asian Law Caucus, which is the country's oldest Asian American civil rights organization, and the opportunity to help lead the DEI effort at Orrick was a continuation of that passion to see more diversity and inclusion in the legal profession, and that's another reason why I'm really happy about being here at Covington."
He added that what he enjoyed most about his practice was helping clients navigate complex insurance issues and understand processes or find the right coverage. "I love helping clients with their most sophisticated, difficult insurance coverage matters on some of the cutting edge issues of today," Darren said.
