Distracted Justice: Talent Churn, Client Demand Pulled Attention Away From Pro Bono

Alan Pemberton and Kelly Voss provided commentary as part of The American Lawyer's Pro Bono Scorecard coverage.

In the article, Alan said Covington's lawyers simply “make time” for pro bono, despite the demands on their time doing billable work. Alan stated that the firm’s lawyers devoted many hours in 2021 to voting rights work, including litigation challenging Ohio redistricting that’s “otherwise known as gerrymandering” and another impact suit in Florida in which the firm succeeded in enjoining provisions of a new voting law that may have had a vote-suppressive effect on poor people and minorities.

Kelly added that lawyers also worked on many smaller matters, such as immigration work, and represented individuals in housing conditions and housing assistance work.
