Abortion and other ESG issues rise up the AGM agenda

Will explained how the number of audit petitions — for both social and environmental causes — are rising as a new tactic that proved successful in 2022. “It is possible that we will see proponents in the future adopting this type of proposal for other types of issues,” he said.

Additionally, shareholders have started pushing a handful of companies to comment more broadly about social issues, such as greater restrictions on abortions, a hot button issue positioned to be increasingly relevant for board members next year. “I would be shocked if there were not some proposals,” David added.
