DOT’s Autonomous Vehicle Crash Stats Leave Questions

Sarah Wilson was quoted by Law360 discussing a recent announcement by the Department of Transportation about developing a regulatory framework regarding plans to release monthly AV crash data and what it means for future regulation.

Sarah said, "The industry and government have a shared goal in terms of encouraging new vehicle technology without undue safety risk, and I think the data is a resource. But it's premature to understand what the data actually tells us.”

“Without having the ability to understand how many vehicles we're talking about, for example, the numbers in the abstract are hard to decipher. It is interesting that telematics, as well as consumers, were the more robust data sources," she added.
