SEC Hints at Forthcoming Climate Disclosure Rules

Mellissa Campbell Duru was quoted in Global Banking Regulation Review regarding SEC chair Gary Gensler’s anticipated climate disclosure rule proposals. According to Mellissa, Gensler’s agenda is “ambitious”.

She said that Gensler’s remarks highlight the debates that lie ahead on climate-related disclosures, adding that these will center around which decision-useful quantitative and qualitative disclosures will be mandated. In addition, Mellissa that the liability framework the SEC attaches to disclosures will be an important discussion to follow, though she maintained that it was too early to tell how the Commissioners’ debates will shape the proposals.
