New Emissions Plan Mends Relations With Automakers, Calif.

According to Gary, the enthusiasm from the major players is a U-turn from the divisions sparked by the Trump administration's regulatory rollbacks, and the Biden administration's efforts to unify them should pay off in the long run. He says, “That will help to make this an enduring effort, even if some criticize it as not as ambitious an effort as it ultimately may need to be.”

He adds, “What's ultimately critical for accomplishing this is that companies have some measure of flexibility in how they manage the fleets that they're achieving compliance with, so that these credits both incentivize innovation and provide some ability to target investments in transformative technology.”
