Business Roundtable Members Face Challenge Over Commitments

In an effort to push companies to disclose their social responsibility, shareholders are proposing information on the environment and workers be shared at forthcoming annual meetings. Reid Hooper is quoted in the Financial Times regarding the SEC’s decision to allow such proposals to be voted upon. Mr. Hooper says, “The SEC staff appears to have a taken a different view and determined that the proposals as a whole raise significant policy issues regarding corporate governance that transcend day-to-day business matters.”
