What advice would you give to someone who wants to be an ally to the LGBT+ community?
Self-education is a major part of allyship. I encourage people to take the opportunity to learn about LGBT+ issues through reading, and at school, if possible. When I was in law school I enrolled in a class on gender issues and the law, and it was an eye-opening experience to learn more about the history of legal barriers for people who are non-gender-conforming.
What does Pride Month mean to you?
Pride Month is a time for celebration and reflection. There is much to celebrate about recent progress in the United States towards greater acceptance of LGBT+ individuals. At the same time, this progress is incomplete because LGBT+ individuals still face prejudice and discrimination.
