On May 17, Covington's Diversity Committee in London hosted its first mental health discussion event with speakers from charity organizations Mind and LawCare. The event was attended by nearly 50 partners, associates, and staff in the London office.
The participants heard from Kirk Nelson (Mind) on the need to tackle the stigma associated with anxiety, stress, and mental health issues, as well as how and where staff can seek help and promote good mental health and well-being at Covington. Mind is one of the largest mental health charities in the UK, focusing on providing advice and support, as well as campaigning for better services and understanding of mental health issues in the UK.
Participants also heard from Ann Charlton, the Charity Coordinator for LawCare. LawCare is a UK mental health charity funded by the Law Society, focusing on providing support to all those working in the UK's legal profession. LawCare runs an independent and confidential helpline offering advice and support. Ms. Charlton focused on specific issues faced by individuals working in the legal profession, and how and where staff can get support from charities such as LawCare.
The discussions were extremely engaging and informative, and numerous questions from the audience were addressed.
