Kate Kraus will be speaking on the panel "The IRS Targets Related Party Partnership Basis Adjustment Transactions" at the 2024 Annual Meeting of the California Lawyers Association Tax Bar. The IRS recently issued guidance that addresses basis adjustments that arise in partnership transactions that involve related parties. The guidance proposes to change the tax treatment of these adjustments, impose new reporting requirements, and apply the economic substance doctrine to disallow the benefits of such adjustments.

The panel will discuss when the new guidance would apply and how to structure a transaction to avoid the proposed rules.
