California recently passed the nation’s first climate disclosure laws, with far-reaching effects for companies operating in the state. In a series of three bills (SB253, SB 261, and AB1305), the State ushered in mandatory climate disclosures for public and private companies, ranging from Scope 1 to 3 greenhouse gas emissions, climate-related financial risk, and carbon neutral, net zero and related reduction claims, including those made by relying on carbon offsets.
