The Future Regulation of FinTech - Individual Accountability in SMCR Webinar

Date: Wednesday, September 30, 2020 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM

The recent collapse of Wirecard has ignited a conversation around the future of regulation and how fintech may be affected.

On July 20, 2020 HM Treasury published two consultation papers on reforms of the financial promotion regime – suggesting that certain cryptoassets should be subject to that regime and also proposing that authorized firms be regulated more robustly where they approve financial promotions issued by unauthorized firms. The direction of travel appears to be that regulators will pay much closer attention to fintech services going forward with a particular emphasis on their role in the provision of consumer services such as payments.

With the Senior Managers and Certification Regime now applying to all regulated firms, regulatory creep is important to consider. This discussion will look at some of the emerging themes in this area and how it might impact individuals.

Topics will include:

  • Future of regulation
  • How fintechs and the fintech services sector may be affected & the risks of regulatory enforcement
  • How Senior Managers involved in digital services could be affected by regulatory action
  • Existing authorized Fintechs/regulated firms - what to look out for in the SMR.
