Covington Hosts Screening of Brother Outsider

February 19, 2019

In celebration of African American History Month, Covington hosted a screening of the documentary, Brother Outsider: The Life of Bayard Rustin. The film tells the story of the life of Bayard Rustin, an African American and openly LGBT activist best remembered as the organizer of the 1963 March on Washington.

Joining us for this special event were Bennett Singer, one of the film’s producers, and Walter Naegle, the life partner of Mr. Rustin. Mr. Singer and Mr. Naegle participated in a lively Q&A session with our attendees.

In 2013, 50 years after the March on Washington, Mr. Rustin was posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Obama. Mr. Naegle, who accepted the award on behalf of Bayard Rustin, graciously displayed the Medal of Freedom during the event.
