The D.C. Road Show, Chaired by Covington Partner Michael St. Patrick Baxter, Concludes 10-Stop Law School Tour

May 18, 2018

The D.C. Road Show was started in 1975 by major Washington law firms with the purpose of encouraging African American law students to consider private practice at large firms in the area. This informative program continues to this day with Covington partner Michael St. Patrick Baxter serving as Chair of the D.C. Road Show and lawyers from numerous large Washington firms serving as volunteers.

The D.C. Road Show travels to law schools and hosts panel events with lawyers from large firms throughout Washington who discuss topics such as what large firms are looking for, how students can position themselves for success at a large law firm, the interview process, choosing a practice area, the advantages of Washington practice, and work-life balance. The program also provides a candid opportunity to discuss questions and concerns about large firm practice.

This year, the D.C. Road Show travelled to 10 law schools, including: New York University School of Law, University of Pennsylvania Law School, Columbia Law School, George Washington University Law School, Georgetown Law School, University of Virginia School of Law, Howard University School of Law, Yale Law School, Duke University School of Law, and Harvard Law School. Approximately 200 law students attended the Road Shows at these schools.

The program concludes every year with an annual reception that provides an opportunity to connect law students who are summer associates in Washington with African American lawyers at large  firms in the area. This year’s Annual D.C. Road Show Reception will be held on June 26, 2018.
