2017 Summer Associate Diversity Summit

Last month Covington hosted its annual Diversity Summit for prospective summer associates. The 2017 summit provided an opportunity to introduce diverse candidates to Covington lawyers representing all of the firm’s affinity groups, and to learn more about the firm’s growing set of practice areas.

The summit opened with welcoming remarks from Diversity Committee co-chair Mike Imbroscio. He described Covington’s longstanding commitment to diversity and the value of diverse perspectives as a critical asset in our service to clients. Karema Page, Covington’s director of legal recruiting, and the legal recruiting staff hosted and coordinated the event. 

As in previous years, Keir Gumbs moderated a panel discussion among associates Lala QadirJeff BozmanDavid SneedJazzirelle Sepulveda, and Annie Wang. The panelists, representing a wide range of practice areas, discussed their work and their experiences with the firm’s recruiting, mentoring, and training programs. After a question-and-answer period, the group moved upstairs to enjoy a rooftop cocktail reception with additional lawyers. After the reception, leaders of the African-American/Black, Asian-American, Hispanic/Latino, and LBGT+ Affinity Groups hosted dinners at their homes. 

The applicants, including several who accepted their offers shortly after the event, commended the firm’s dedication to diversity. Covington remains proud of its diverse team, and welcomes the opportunity to continue this tradition in the coming years.
