What advice would you give to someone who wants to be an ally to the API community?

Resist being a passive observer. Recognize even small gestures can have a large impact and change does not have to come from individuals in leadership positions. Make a conscious decision to advocate for colleagues in the API community. Highlight a colleague’s accomplishments, celebrate their successes, include them in conversations they would not normally be in, solicit their input on projects.

What does APA Heritage Month mean to you?

This month is a reminder that the API community has a long and rich history in this country. There are those who wish to cast us as outsiders, and sadly, with the recent vicious attacks on Asian Americans, those numbers seem to be growing. I am hopeful APA Heritage Month is not only a celebration of our culture but an opportunity to educate.
