    Azumah Cofie is a lawyer in the Project Development and Finance Practice Group in London. He joined Covington as a trainee solicitor in 2020 and trained in the firm’s London and Dubai offices. He has experience advising borrowers, sponsors and lenders on the development and financing of international energy and infrastructure projects.

    Azumah is also a member of the firm’s Africa Practice Group and a co-lead of the Multicultural Network affinity group in London.

    • Represented the sponsor consortium of ENGIE and Electricite de France (EDF) on the development and financing of the approximately $79 million Noor 2 Street Lighting Project in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. This project was awarded “PPP Deal of the Year – Street Lighting (MENA)” at the IJGlobal Awards 2023.
    • Represented an ACWA Power-led consortium in connection with the development and financing of the 2.6GW Al Shuaibah 1 and Al Shuaibah 2 solar PV projects at a total investment of $2.37 billion in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. This project was awarded "Global Green Deal of the Year" at the PFI Awards 2023, and “Sustainability-Linked Deal of the Year (MENA)” at the IJGlobal Awards 2023.
    • Represented a sponsor consortium on the financing of the Magma hazardous waste treatment project, involving an industrial waste processing plant and a naturally occurring radioactive material processing plant, located in the Ruwais area of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The project was awarded “Waste Deal of the Year (MENA)” at the IJGlobal Awards 2023.
    • Represented ACWA Power on the development and financing of three 4.5GW solar projects known as AR RAAS 2, AL KAHFAH, and SA’AD 2 in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. These solar projects are part of the National Renewable Energy Program (NREP) and won the “Middle East Mega Solar Award (MENA)” at the IJGlobal Awards 2023.
    • Advised ACWA Power as sponsor in connection with the financing of the Hassyan independent water project, the world’s largest renewable energy-powered reverse osmosis seawater desalination plant, in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
    • Advised the project company on financing matters in connection with a 100 MW concentrated solar power plant in South Africa.
    • Advised lenders on financing matters in connection with the Greater Cairo Metro Al Thawra Line (Line 3) - Phase 3, Group 5 project in Egypt.
    • Represented the project company and sponsor consortium on the refinancing of the existing Barka Phase 2 power and sea water desalination plants in the Sultanate of Oman.
    • Advised the project companies on various financing and operational matters relating to two solar photovoltaic power plant facilities and a 485 MW combined cycle gas turbine-based power plant in Jordan.
    • Advised the project company on various financing and operational matters relating to the Fadhili combined cycled gas power plant in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
    • Advised the project company on various operation matters relating to the Taweelah A1 IWPP, United Arab Emirates.
    • Represented the project company and guarantors in connection with the financing of the Rabigh 4 sea water desalination plant in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
