Ashley Joyner Chavous’s practice focuses on white-collar criminal matters, internal corporate investigations, and compliance counseling.

Ms. Chavous represents clients in a range of criminal and enforcement matters and also provides compliance and governance advice. She has conducted internal investigations in the United States, Asia, Europe, and South America. She has represented companies and individuals in a variety of FCPA enforcement matters. She also regularly counsels clients facing difficult FCPA issues in a variety of business contexts, and assists clients in developing and implementing FCPA compliance programs and conducting FCPA training.

  • Counsel to a major pharmaceutical company in a DOJ/SEC investigation concerning alleged violations of the FCPA.
  • Counsel to a major pharmaceutical company in a DOJ investigation concerning alleged violations of the False Claims Act and Anti-Kickback Statute.
  • Advising a sports league on anti-corruption policies and procedures.
  • Advised a prominent policy institute on sensitive national security matters and associated regulatory and litigation risks. 
  • Representing a major financial institution in multi-agency investigation of foreign bribery relating to hiring practices.
  • Defended a major defense contractor in multimillion dollar personal injury suit arising out of performance of maintenance services during Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Pro Bono

  • Representing DC non-profit organization in investigation by Office of Attorney General for the District of Columbia.
  • Representing the NAACP in litigation challenging Confederate naming of public schools in Virginia.
  • Successful representation of African American teenagers related to racial discrimination claims.
  • Represented a victim of domestic violence in her efforts to obtain a Civil Protection Order. 
  • Representing DC-area low-income residents in housing condition and landlord-tenant disputes.
  • Represented minor child in multi-year custody/neglect litigation, including at trial.
  • Served as guardian ad litem for minor children in custody disputes.
  • Represented minor child in special education services dispute with educational institution.
