WASHINGTON— As the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit representative for the American Bar Association Standing Committee on the Federal Judiciary, Jean Veta served as a principal evaluator of Supreme Court nominee, Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson’s professional qualifications to serve on the Court. Jean testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee regarding Judge Jackson’s integrity, professional competence, and judicial temperament, which had earned her the Standing Committee’s unanimous rating of "Well Qualified". Judge Jackson was confirmed by Senate to replace retiring Justice Stephen Breyer on April 7.
Jean’s practice at Covington includes defending financial institutions and their officers and directors in civil and regulatory enforcement matters, government investigations, internal corporate investigations, and congressional investigations.
The ABA Standing Committee on the Federal Judiciary takes on the task of evaluating the qualifications of federal judicial nominees because of the importance of the judges’ role and the lifetime appointments they receive.
