WASHINGTON—Covington was ranked second among Am Law 200 firms in The American Lawyer’s annual Pro Bono Survey.
The American Lawyer ranks firms by a pro bono score that considers the average number of pro bono hours per lawyer and the percentage of lawyers who performed more than 20 hours of pro bono work.
“Legal services are often unaffordable for the people who need them most,” said Alan Pemberton, chair of Covington’s pro bono committee. “This year, the firm was involved in a diverse range of pro bono matters and secured meaningful results for our clients across the board. We view pro bono service as an important ethical and professional obligation and look forward to continuing our important pro bono tradition.”
Since its founding in 1919, Covington has maintained a strong commitment to public service. The firm encourages all of its lawyers to participate in pro bono work, and devotes significant resources to finding pro bono projects that reflect the diverse interests of its lawyers.
