Covington and LEX Africa Name Second Fellow
November 15, 2016
WASHINGTON—Covington, in association with LEX Africa, an alliance of leading law firms in Africa, has named Bridget Nambooze as its second Covington-LEX Africa fellow.
Covington and LEX Africa launched the program in 2015 in an effort to foster links between the African and international legal communities. Each year, LEX Africa member firms recommend an internal candidate for the fellowship. The successful candidate spends three months at Covington’s Washington office and is paid a stipend to assist with living expenses.
Ms. Nambooze is currently an associate with Katende Ssempebwa & Co. in Uganda where she advises clients on a broad range of corporate matters, including mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance, and due diligence investigations. Ms. Nambooze also advises local and international clients on real estate acquisition and management and has considerable experience in debt restructuring.
“We are thrilled to welcome Ms. Nambooze to Washington and look forward to continuing to work with LEX Africa on this important initiative,” said Witney Schneidman, chair of Covington’s Africa initiative and former U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs. “Last year’s program truly had a lasting impact on Covington and our international fellow, and the experience helped us develop an even deeper appreciation for the tremendous talent pool within the African legal sector.”
Ms. Nambooze added, “I am excited to work alongside Covington’s leading corporate practice and build relationships with both the lawyers and the firm. The program provides me with a great opportunity to grow my international expertise and also fosters a link between Washington and Uganda.”
The first Covington-LEX Africa fellow was Sandro Jorge, a senior associate at Couto Graça and Associados in Mozambique. Mr. Jorge had more than ten years of experience in the public and private sectors and held positions as legal counsel at the National Council for Sustainable Development and legal advisor and head of the legal department at the Ministry for the Coordination of Environmental Affairs in Mozambique.
