WASHINGTON, DC, September 23, 2008 — For the third consecutive year, Covington & Burling LLP has been named in Working Mother magazine’s list of “100 Best Companies.” Covington is one of only four law firms named in the list, which is comprised mainly of major public companies. “We are delighted that Working Mother has once again selected Covington for this recognition,” said Timothy Hester, chair of Covington’s management committee. “We strive to provide all of our employees with innovative programs that make a positive impact on their overall quality of life. We have made significant progress in this critical area, and we will continue to make this a priority for the firm.” Covington was selected for the 2008 Working Mother 100 Best Companies list based on submissions addressing detailed questions about workforce, compensation, child care, flexibility programs, leave policies and more. It also checked the usage, availability and tracking of programs, as well as the accountability of managers who oversee them. Seven areas were measured and scored: workforce profile, compensation, child care, flexibility, time off and leaves, family-friendly programs, and company culture. For this year’s 100 Best, particular weight was given to family-friendly policies, flexibility, leave policies, and benefits for part-timers. Suzanne Riss, Editor in Chief of Working Mother magazine, commented, “Covington knows that their investment pays for itself through employee loyalty and they realize that productivity depends as much on satisfied staffers as on smart processes. By helping employees manage their work/life demands, Covington is creating a highly motivated workforce.”
