Global Competition Review covered Nils Wahl’s arrival at Covington.
Speaking to GCR, Nils said he was ready for a change after 18 years at the EU courts but did not know what that might look like until Johan Ysewyn, co-chair of Covington’s global competition practice, contacted him.
“Given my time there at the court, I’ve seen quite a lot” – and working out exactly how this knowledge can be put to use at Covington promises to be an “extremely interesting” challenge, Nils said.
Johan said bringing in Nils – a rare hire of a departing judge from the ECJ-was a “no brainer.”
Johan added that bringing in Nils was a “no brainer.” Having a jurist of Wahl’s stature weigh in at the early stages of devising a legal argument is a “unique opportunity”, he said.
“Initial submissions to competition authorities are increasingly important further down the line before the courts,” Johan added.
“Nils’ experience both at the General Court and the ECJ is invaluable,” he added.
