Bethany Theriot specializes in both representing policyholders in disputes with their insurance carriers and counseling U.S. and multinational clients on international trade and regulatory enforcement matters.

In her insurance practice, Ms. Theriot primarily represents policyholders in complex and high-stakes insurance recovery litigation. She also has experience counseling clients on their existing insurance programs and claims. In the course of her efforts to help clients to secure coverage, Ms. Theriot has analyzed issues arising under fidelity bonds and commercial general liability, professional liability, errors and omissions, and maritime policies.

  • Representing public utilities in coverage actions for environmental cleanup.
  • Litigated coverage under a Financial Institution Bond for a $100 million plus fraud loss arising out of one of the largest-ever financial frauds.
  • Represented a financial institution in a voluntary disclosure before the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) regarding potential sanctions violations at its foreign subsidiary.
  • Represents companies in internal investigations into international trade controls violations arising under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (“ITAR”) and the Export Administration Regulation (“EAR”).
  • Advises companies on preparing and filing export license applications, technical assistance and manufacturing license agreements, commodity jurisdiction and commodity classification ruling requests.
  • Represents companies in mergers and acquisitions activities, including conducting and responding to trade controls due diligence, and crafting representations and warranties and other contractual provisions related to trade controls compliance.

  • Secured Social Security disability benefits for a victim of gun violence.
  • Represented a prisoner on Alabama death row in his federal habeas corpus proceedings.
