    Aleksander Aleksiev helps clients to solve legal problems associated with data protection, cybersecurity, and new technologies. He holds degrees in both law and computer engineering which he combines to provide advice that is both legally sound and technologically pragmatic.

    Aleksander has advised companies, governments, and charitable organizations on a range of technology law issues including data breach response, compliance with privacy and cybersecurity laws, and IT contract negotiations. In addition to his experience advising on European law, Aleksander is Australian-qualified and has significant experience advising clients in the Asia-Pacific – particularly on Australian and Hong Kong law.

    • Advising a range of clients on cyber incident and data breach response, including advising on regulatory and contractual obligations and drafting communications to customers, suppliers, and regulators.
    • Supporting a range of companies (including internet, logistics and utilities companies) in connection with their cybersecurity obligations as critical infrastructure operators, including providing detailed legal advice, developing compliance “playbooks” for business stakeholders, and updating core procurement contracts to ensure regulatory obligations “flow through” to suppliers.
    • Advising a national government on confidential reforms to its security and intelligence agency surveillance framework.
    • Drafting global intragroup data-sharing and intellectual property contracts for multiple global technology companies.
    • Negotiating dozens of software-as-a-service contracts and data processing agreements on behalf of an Australian software company, including contracts with government bodies, Australian companies, and international companies.
    • Advising a Hong Kong logistics company on a multimillion dollar dispute with a large American technology company in relation to a global outsourcing contract, including preparing advice on rights and obligations under Hong Kong contract law and drafting correspondence with the counterparty.

    • Advising a range of government bodies and international companies on European and Australian privacy obligations, including conducting compliance reviews, drafting privacy policies and collection notices, and preparing data transfer strategies in the context of cross-border M&A transactions.
    • Advising multiple government bodies on data-sharing and privacy issues associated with confidential policy reform programs.
    • Advising a medical AI company on the drafting of its royalty and data-sharing agreements.
    • Conducting a global regulatory review in connection with the launch of a new telecommunications product by a large e-commerce company.
