Covington Receives Top Honors from Chambers USA
5/27/2014
WASHINGTON, DC, May 27, 2014 — Covington & Burling received several top honors as part of this year’s
Chambers USA Awards for Excellence and
Chambers USA rankings. The London-based publication honored Covington’s Paul Tagliabue with a Lifetime Achievement Award, recognized the firm’s Intellectual Property practice with a Client Service Award, and ranked 47 practices and 147 individuals in the 2014 edition of Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business.
In presenting
Mr. Tagliabue with its Lifetime Achievement Award at its awards ceremony in New York on May 22, Chambers USA recognized him as “one of the most influential names in American sports law.” Describing him as a “brilliant man of integrity and character,” the publication noted his seventeen years as Commissioner of the National Football League and his many years of private practice at Covington before and after his tenure as NFL commissioner.
Chambers recognized Covington’s
IP practice for the quality and range of its client service. In presenting the Client Service Award to Covington, Chambers noted that its sources “reserve acclaim for the problem-solving skills of this fine outfit.” The publication highlighted Covington’s favorable result for Samsung Electronics in an ITC Section 337 investigation involving LED technology and the firm’s victories in two Hatch-Waxman cases for Warner Chilcott against generic pharmaceuticals manufacturers.
Following the awards ceremony, Chambers USA released its 2014 directory of rankings, identifying leading lawyers by national and regional practice areas. Among the many accolades given to the firm’s practices and lawyers, including numerous “Band 1” rankings, Covington’s insurance recovery practice was for the sixth consecutive year the only law firm recognized by Chambers with a nationwide “Band 1” ranking in the policyholder category.
