Covington Named ‘Privacy & Consumer Protection Practice Group of the Year’
January 22, 2013
WASHINGTON, DC, January 22, 2013 — For the second straight year, Law360 named Covington & Burling’s global privacy and data security practice as one of the top five “Privacy & Consumer Protection Practice Groups of the Year.”
In a profile highlighting the firm’s privacy-related work, Law360 noted the group’s recent litigation win for LinkedIn Corp. In that case, the Covington team secured “the dismissal of a putative class action that accused the online networking site of transmitting user IDs to third parties.” The publication also cited the firm’s work for clients such as Microsoft, Viacom, the Entertainment Software Association, Abbott Laboratories and Facebook.
Kurt Wimmer and Henriette Tielemans, co-chairs of the firm’s global privacy and data security practice, credited the group’s success to the firm’s relationships with its clients.
Law360’s editorial team reviewed nearly 550 entries for the series. Winners were selected based on the significance, size and complexity of the matters they handled in the last year.
Covington’s global privacy and data security practice is comprised of some 40 lawyers practicing in Washington, Brussels, London, Beijing, New York, and California, and plans to expand its privacy services to the firm’s recently opened Seoul office. The group regularly receives top rankings from publications such as Chambers and Legal 500 in the United States, Europe and the United Kingdom.
