WASHINGTON, DC, May 8, 2012 — The National Law Journal has named Covington & Burling to its inaugural Intellectual Property Hot List, which recognizes 20 top firms that have “demonstrated creative strategies for litigation, patent prosecution, licensing and other transactional work” in the intellectual property field. In naming Covington to the list, the NLJ cited Covington’s intellectual property litigation in federal courts around the country and at the International Trade Commission, as well as its work on congressional negotiations surrounding the America Invents Act and the firm’s in-house Internet investigations team.
The newspaper highlighted Covington’s win last year on behalf of Huawei Technologies, Inc. in a conspiracy and trade secret misappropriation case brought by its former partner Motorola Solutions. The Covington team, led by partner Robert Haslam, succeeded in turning the tables in the case by obtaining a preliminary injunction that barred Motorola from transferring Huawei’s trade secrets to Nokia Siemens Networks. Covington’s IP practice, which includes more than 140 lawyers worldwide, has received numerous awards and accolades in the field.
