Law360 Names Covington ‘White Collar Practice Group of the Year’
January 20, 2012
WASHINGTON, DC, January 20, 2012 — Law360 named Covington & Burling’s white collar defense and investigations practice as of one of the top five “White Collar Practice Groups of the Year.”
In a profile about the firm’s practice published on Jan. 19th, Law360 noted the breadth of Covington’s clients and matters in the white collar practice area as a key reason for awarding the group this honor. “The previous year saw Covington & Burling LLP's white collar defense and investigations group defend high-profile companies and individuals in jurisdictions stretching from Washington to Kiev, and in cases ranging from pharmaceutical and securities enforcement to high-stakes political persecutions.”
Law360 also cited several of the firm’s white collar-related legal victories over the past year for clients as the basis for the award.
“Our group is honored to be named a top white collar practice by Law360. This is testament to our talented and experienced lawyers,” said Bruce Baird, Nancy Kestenbaum and Ethan Posner, co-chairs of Covington’s white collar defense and investigations group. “The breadth and strength of our group is incomparable, with more than 30 partners, most of whom previously held key government posts and who work together with Covington’s regulatory experts in a wide array of fields, including the pharmaceutical, securities, and criminal antitrust and cartel areas.”
Covington's White Collar Defense & Investigations Practice is widely recognized not only for litigating and winning high-profile criminal cases, but also for devising creative legal strategies to resolve cases. The white collar practice spans across core areas including criminal antitrust and cartel investigations; internal investigations; Foreign Corrupt Practice Act, anti-corruption and anti-bribery; foreign trade controls; financial institutions investigations; securities enforcement; False Claims Act; pharmaceutical investigations; and congressional investigations.
More than 550 submissions from across the globe were reviewed by a committee of Law360 editors and five winners were selected for each practice area. Law firms were selected for top honors based on the significance, size and complexity of the matters they handled for clients over the past year.
