June 11, 2010
WASHINGTON, DC, June 11, 2010 — Covington & Burling LLP’s insurance practice has received the Chambers USA Award for Excellence in Insurance, becoming the only firm representing corporate policyholders to win the award two years in a row. Covington was presented with the award at a gala celebration in New York last night held in conjunction with the release of the annual Chambers USA guidebook. Covington was also shortlisted for Awards for Excellence in the fields of International Trade and Privacy.
In addition to receiving the Award for Excellence in Insurance, Covington’s policyholder practice took top honors in the Chambers USA 2010 guidebook, which gave Covington an exclusive top-tier ranking nationwide, as well as exclusive top-tier rankings in California and Washington. Along with the firm rankings, a dozen of the firm’s coverage lawyers were ranked individually for their work in Washington, California, and/or nationally, with six Covington partners receiving Band 1 rankings in the policyholder field. Don Brown was given the rare distinction of receiving a “star” ranking in California, with Chambers observing that Don is “regarded by many as ‘the best policyholder lawyer on the West Coast -- maybe even the whole country.’”
2010 also marks the second straight year that the Legal 500 has given Covington’s insurance practice the highest ranking among all policyholder firms in the US. In singling out Covington, the editors wrote in their just-released 2010 guide that Covington “dominates the insurance coverage field with significant strength on the East and West Coast.”
Covington’s insurance practice, with more than 100 lawyers, has a 30-year record of successfully assisting policyholders in maximizing their insurance coverage for a wide variety of claims. The firm’s lawyers have helped policyholders recover well in excess of $15 billion. The firm represents corporate policyholders internationally in arbitration, litigation, and mediation, focusing on recovering on high-value insurance claims involving such losses as shareholder and other financial litigation, mass torts, environmental concerns, and business interruption and property losses.
