WASHINGTON, DC, April 8, 2010 — Three partners at Covington & Burling LLP have been selected as “Rising Stars” by Law360. The online legal publication describes each of the partners as one of the 10 best lawyers under the age of 40 in his respective practice area. Named as “Rising Stars” are David Fagan in international trade, Seth Safra in employment, and Paul Schmidt in product liability.
David Fagan, 36, was selected by International Trade Law360 for outstanding work before the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States in helping clients secure regulatory approval for high-profile foreign investments in U.S. companies. Law360 also noted Mr. Fagan’s practice in the data security field, a natural outgrowth of his CFIUS-related practice given that foreign investment transactions frequently include measures to protect data or systems of interest to the U.S. government.
Seth Safra, 34, was selected by Employment Law360 for his superior work in his field, which includes all aspects of employee benefits and executive compensation, ranging from the design, implementation, and administration of retirement plans to the structuring and negotiating of employment, deferred compensation, and similar arrangements. Mr. Safra was in particular cited by Law360 for his successful work before the Internal Revenue Service on a high profile matter.
Paul Schmidt, 39, was selected by Product Liability Law360 for his “undefeated appellate record,” featuring several wins for major pharmaceutical companies. Mr. Schmidt is one of the leaders of Covington’s product liability defense group and focuses on the representation of pharmaceutical companies at both trial and on appeal. In 2009, The National Law Journal named Mr. Schmidt to its “40 Under 40” list of top Washington-area lawyers under the age of 40.
