Covington Partners Egan and Schmidt Among National Law Journal’s ‘40 Under 40’

7/13/2009

WASHINGTON, DC, July 13 2009The National Law Journal has named Covington & Burling LLP partners Erin Egan and Paul Schmidt to its survey of “40 Under 40.” The list, which is featured in the July 13 issue, recognizes 40 Washington-area lawyers under the age of 40 who have already made their marks in private practice, government service, or the public interest field.

The special report recognizes Ms. Egan, co-chair of Covington’s global privacy and data security group, for “laying the groundwork for a cutting-edge practice.” The report describes how her work in the 1990s for companies operating online led to the creation of a 25-lawyer group that today serves a number of Fortune 500 clients.

Mr. Schmidt, a litigator, is recognized for his trial and appellate work in the pharmaceutical products liability area. Since arguing his first pharmaceutical appeal four years ago as an associate, Mr. Schmidt has racked up a 6-0 record in the pharmaceutical appellate cases that he has personally argued. He has successfully represented Hoffmann-La Roche Inc. in a number of cases involving allegations that the company’s acne drug Accutane has caused suicide or gastrointestinal complications, including cases before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit and the New Jersey Supreme Court.
