UK’s financial services ambitions could boost City of London

Francis Maude is quoted in Global Risk Regulator regarding trade deals that will significantly impact the city of London.

Mr. Maude discussed a UK financial services deal with the U.S., saying, “I’ve always been skeptical of the benefits of a UK-U.S. trade deal, on how much it will deliver and the U.S. is going through a protectionist cycle and I don’t see that changing. The U.S. is difficult to negotiate with. I saw that in my short time as trade minister when the EU and U.S. were trying to negotiate TTIP (Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership).” Those talks eventually collapsed.
